Lloyd Harris enters this US Open qualifying opener with stronger momentum and a ranking edge at approximately No. 139 versus Tomic’s No. 179. The South African has posted a 22-5 hard-court record in 2026, highlighted by a Brownsburg Challenger title and a deep Cancun run that included wins over Djere and Kopriva before a semifinal loss to Baez. Tomic, seeking his first Grand Slam main draw since 2021, has also shown resurgence with a Lincoln Challenger crown and an ATP quarterfinal in Los Cabos that featured a win over Khachanov, though his overall hard-court ledger sits at 17-11. Their lone prior meeting dates to 2018, when Tomic prevailed in three sets. Both players bring recent hard-court experience into the best-of-three match on the New York hard courts.
