Game context
The Kansas City Royals (58-74) arrive in Toronto riding an 8- or 9-game winning streak and strong recent form that has narrowed their deficit in the AL Central, while the Blue Jays (64-68) sit mid-pack in the AL East after a mixed August. The three-game set at Rogers Centre opens with probable starters Seth Lugo against Max Scherzer, and both clubs carry multiple IL placements that thin their rotations and lineups—most notably Royals infielder Maikel Garcia (hamstring) and Jays right-hander Jameson Taillon (forearm). Bullpen depth, home/away splits, and late-inning offense will shape results in what remains a competitive regular-season series.
