US Open, Qualification WTA: Polina Iatcenko vs Julie Struplova

Game context
Polina Iatcenko enters this US Open qualifying opener on hard courts ranked around No. 160 with a career-high of 146 and a WTA 125 title from Caldas da Rainha in 2025, giving her the edge in pedigree and recent hard-court exposure. The 22-year-old Russian holds a 20-18 record in 2026, though she has dropped recent qualifier matches to players like Claire Liu and Julieta Pareja. Julie Struplova, ranked near 217 with a career high of 207, boasts a stronger 2026 win rate in lower-tier events, primarily on clay where she reached multiple ITF finals and semifinals this summer. The 21-year-old Czech has limited hard-court experience and no prior head-to-head history with Iatcenko. Both players achieved ranking peaks in July, but Iatcenko’s higher level of competition and surface familiarity shape the prevailing trader consensus.
