Game context

The Kansas City Royals enter this matchup riding a nine-game win streak—their longest since 2017—after defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 in the series opener, with strong recent offensive output and pitching that has limited opponents. The Royals sit at 59-74, last in the AL Central, but have outscored foes by 24 runs over their current streak. Toronto, at 64-69 and fifth in the AL East while fading from wild-card contention, ranks near the bottom in runs scored, home runs, and expected offensive metrics, and will use an opener in Spencer Miles before turning to the bullpen after placing Shane Bieber on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. Both clubs carry extensive injury lists affecting position players and arms, though the Blue Jays’ lack of starting depth stands out in this road contest at Rogers Centre.
